Middlesbrough, last season's Football League Championship runner-up, is on a downward spiral at the moment with five straight winless games. The team is currently in the 16th spot in the overall standings, only four points above the bottom three relegation area.

The Smoggies are coming off a crushing 1-3 loss to streaking team West Ham United also at the Riverside Stadium in their most recent fixture on Jan. 21, as per BBC Sport.

West Ham forward Andy Carroll opened the scoring early with a patented six-yard header in the ninth minute to put head coach Aitor Karanka's side into an early hole.

Boro striker Cristhian Stuani was able to level the count with a goal in the 27th minute off an assist by Calum Chambers.

However, the Hammers netted the next two goals of the contest as Carroll scored his second in the 43rd while Jonathan Calleri sealed the game in the second half injury time.

Meanwhile, West Brom blanked cellar-dwelling squad Sunderland, 2-0, at their home ground of the Hawthorns also on Jan. 21 for the team's third win in their last four matches, Chronicle Live reported.

Head coach Tony Pulis' squad scored two first half goals, courtesy of team captain Darren Fletcher and vice-captain Chris Brunt in the 30th and 36th minutes, before keeping the Black Cats scoreless throughout the game.

With the win, the Baggies has successfully bounced back from their previous embarrassing loss to Tottenham Hotspur and got back on the winning track.
