'Star Trek Discovery's' production currently underway; Teaser featured a glimpse of what to expect from it

"Star Trek Discovery" takes place a decade prior to the events of the franchise's original series.

After the success of 2016's "Star Trek  Beyond," the space trotting franchise will be back to its roots with "Star Trek Discovery" as it will be seen on the small screen. A teaser was even released showcasing a behind the scenes look suggesting that the show is indeed pushing through.

The show began its production last Jan. 24 and what better way to celebrate such development than to release a video making it known to its fandom about its return. The minute-long clip featured the franchise's humble beginnings until its upcoming installment.

The show was supposed to debut last January and was, later on, bumped to May. As of late, "Discovery" is not slated to premiere this fall. As a result, CBS' streaming service has pulled "The Good Fight's" premiere date to February after "Discovery's" initial hold up, according to Variety.

Last October 2016, showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg took over the upcoming show's production as fellow producer Bryan Fuller bailed out due to other commitments. However, Fuller has already established "Discovery's" story and mythos that promises to be different from its predecessors.

Looking back to the recently released teaser, it may well seem that the clip has also teased the new ship - USS Discovery. However, it was pointed out that the spacecraft featured was the USS Shenzhou to be helmed by Captain Georgiou as assumed by Michelle Yeoh, Gamesradar reported.

Joining Yeoh is Sonequa Martin-Green who will play as USS Discovery's lieutenant commander Rainsford. James Frain, on the other hand, will play as the Vulcan Sarek who is an astrophysicist and the father of Spock.

The warrior race of the Klingons will also be featured in the upcoming series as the show has tapped Chris Obi to play as the Klingon leader T'Kuvma who aims to unite the Klingon houses. Mary Chieffo will also be part of the Klingon fleet as she was cast as the Klingon ship's battle deck commander, L'Rell. Meanwhile, Shazad Latif will play as Kol who is the protégé of T'Kuvma.
