Huawei Maya may be a new smartphone that will be targeted at budget-conscious customers. The device suddenly appeared at a GFX benchmark with some specs revealed while a leaked FCC Filing shows the back portion of the said device.

The new device has a model number of MYA-LO3 according to the Geekbench result. Huawei's new device has also an FCC filing that was reportedly filed on Dec. 28, 2016, which means that it was able to go unnoticed amidst the Christmas tech leaks.

Huawei Maya's GFX Bench listing showed that it is powered by the MediaTek MT6737T SoC with a quad-core processor running at 1.44GHz. The MediaTek processor gives the device away as a budget smartphone. Most of the affordable Android smartphones in Asia carry a MediaTek processor.

Fortunately, the low-end device will still have 2GB RAM. In the previous decade or so, budget smartphones often had less than 1GB RAM and anything above that was considered mid-end.

The leaked Huawei Maya FCC filing shows that it may actually be a dual-SIM smartphone which makes sense considering that their main market is Asia. Interestingly, the battery capacity is set at 2920mAh which is just 80mAh short of the 3000mAh mark, Fab Newz reported. Despite being a budget smartphone, the device still supports LTE 2, 4, 5 and 7 bands. There will also be a single SIM variant.

Unfortunately, both models of the Huawei Maya seem to have only one camera which is placed at the rear. With no front camera, the device may not be a hit for millennials who love to take selfies everywhere and any time.

Swappable backplates may also be possible based on the leaked Huawei Maya FCC filing. There also seems to be an expandable storage option in the form of a microSD card slot. However, the storage limit is not yet determined.

Huawei's Maya smartphones may be expected at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2017 event. The expected Huawei Maya price is at least $100.
