La Liga 2016-2017: Leganes vs Sporting Gijon, Preview, Prediction & Predicted Lineup

Lowly teams CD Leganes (4-11-6, 18 points) and Sporting de Gijon (3-14-4, 13 points) are set to face one another in a 2016-2017 La Liga season match on Feb. 12, Sunday at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.

Leganes, which is promoted this term after finishing as runners-up in the Segunda Division last season, is currently on a two-game losing slide after drawing their previous two matches. The team remained in the 17th spot of the 20-team Spanish top flight, five points above Sporting Gijon in the bottom three relegation zone.

Los Pepineros were blanked by contending squad Atletico Madrid, 0-2, in their most recent La Liga fixture held last Saturday on the road at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, as per Goal.

Atletico forward Fernando Torres provided the two goals in the match for the hosts while head coach Asier Garitano's squad was unable to respond even with a single goal during the contest. It was the second straight shutout loss for Leganes as the team has only scored two goals in their last four games.

Meanwhile, Sporting Gijon remains in the relegation area as the team has been winless in seven consecutive matches. The team is currently tied on points with Granada and is three points ahead of cellar-dwelling club CA Osasuna.

Sporting is coming off a 2-4 loss to another newly-promoted team, Alaves, at their home ground of El Molinon Stadium last Sunday, via Sporting Life.

The visitors scored the first three goals of the contest, courtesy of Ruben Sobrino, Christian Santos, and Edgar Mendez in the 10th, 58th, and 70th minutes before head coach Rubi's side managed to respond with a goal by Lacina Traore in the 84th.

Alaves made it a 4-1 count just one minute later after a header by Spanish defender Alexis Ruano to seal the game while Sporting's substitute striker Carlos Castro netted a consolation goal on the stroke of full-time.
