Sword Art Online is a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec as the story takes place in a near future and focuses on virtual reality MMORPG.

New details and spoilers for "Sword Art Online" season 3 will feature its announcement during "SAO: Oridinal Scale" and the "Alicization" arc finally happening in the anime series.

It seems that production for "Sword Art Online" season 3 could finally happen as several fans who have attended the advance screening of "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale". Anime blog website Yaraon claim that the season 3 announcement will be shown at the end credits of "Ordinal Scale" film, ComicBook reported.

"Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" will set in the year 2026, four years after the Sword Art Online incident as Kirito, Asuna and the rest of their friends embark on their next adventure in the new VRMMORPG called "Ordinal Scale".

Gamers can play "Ordinal Scale" by the used of a new virtual reality device called "Augma", as the design looks like a pair of small earphones, although in terms of size and portability, it is far superior to the existing VR machine “Atmusphere”.

Augma does not have a full-dive function from the previous devices, however, its AR function is greatly enhanced to compensate for it. It can transmit visual, audio and tactual sensation data to players while they are awake, thus enabling the users to enjoy fitness and health management like a game.

In "Ordinal Scale", players can raise their rank by collecting items that appear in various places in the real world and by defeating monsters. The ranking system features of the game are indicated by an ordinal number instead of a cardinal number. This resulted in high ranking players having overwhelming power and often rank has become a major factor in deciding the outcome of a PvP battle.

However, a new threat looms around in "Ordinal Scale" and it is up to Kirito, Asuna and the rest of the gang to stop it and prevent another "SAO" incident once more.

With that in mind, could anime fans finally see the "Alicization" arc in season 3 of "Sword Art Online" anime series?

Anime producer Shinichiro Kashiwada once hined that he would like to see Kirito and the rest of 'SAO' characters featured in the "Alicization" arc in season 3 since the storyline has not yet incorporated in the anime show.

The "Alicization" arc will have Kirito working for a mysterious organization called Rath, under orders from the VR Crime Division officer Kikouka Seijiro. Kirito will be testing a new experimental 4th generation FullDive machine dubbed "Soul Translator" as he tries to observe its specs and effects on people and gather more valuable data.

However, Kirito is not aware that Rath is using "Soul Translator" for military purposes. As the machine became compliant, it created a new virtual world called "Underworld", where in time is a thousand times faster than the real world. At some point Kirito became trapped in Underworld and will live eleven years of his life as a child.

Kashiwada also express having the "Progressive" novels in "Sword Art Online" anime, which is a retelling of the original "SAO" manga, Anime News Network reported.

Anime fans will likely to hear more about "Sword Art Online" season 3 within the year.
