HTC U Ultra, U Play confirmed for Asia, Europe launch; Devices slated to a March launch in Europe

After the recent release of HTC U Ultra alongside the HTC U Play on Jan. 12 in Taiwan, the tech giant is preparing to release its HTC U 11 flagship device.

After the recent release of HTC U Ultra alongside the HTC U Play on Jan. 12 in Taiwan, the tech giant is preparing to do a market expansion for the smartphones in Asia and Europe, HTC's president of global sales confirmed.

HTC's new flagship phones, the HTC U Play and HTC U Ultra, will soon hit shelves around the world after HTC's president of global sales Chia-Lin Chang sent a word about the global launch of U series. The company is expected to start shipping in countries in Asia this week and in parts of Europe in March, CNet has learned.

For the uninitiated, the HTC U Ultra features a 5.7-inch QHD display resulting to 2560 X 1440 screen resolution, The Mobile Indian reported. Its secondary display sports a 2.0-inch dimension with 160X1040 pixel resolution. Inside, the handset is armed with Qualcomm's high-end Snapdragon 821 processor, alongside the Adreno 530 GPU. The device is backed by 4GB of RAM and offers two storage options; a 64GB and 128GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded.

In its optics department, the device features a 12-megapixel primary rear camera, powered by 1.55-micron pixels, f/1.8 aperture, hybrid autofocus. It also features a built-in phase detection autofocus and laser autofocus, OIS, dual tone LED flash. Up front, a 16-megapixel camera sits with f/2.0 aperture, 28mm focal length.

The HTC U Ultra will be shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat, while HTC's own skin Sense will run on top of it. The phone houses a 3000 mAh non-removable battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

On the other hand, the HTC U Play sports a 5.2-inch full HD display with a screen resolution of 1920x1080 IPS LCD display. Under the hood, the phone is fueled by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor, which is backed by two RAM and storage options; a 3GB of RAM/32GB internal memory and a 4GB RAM/64GB storage option.

Its camera will sport a 16-megapixel primary rear camera with BSI sensor, OIS, PDAF, f2/2.0 aperture, as well as a 16-megapixel front-snapper with f/2.0 aperture, 28mm focal length. It will also run the latest Nougat update, while it packs a 2500 mAh battery inside.

Both the devices feature built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS and USB 3.1 Type-C (USB 2.0 Type-C for U Play) as connectivity options.

In the U series, HTC has debuted its smart personal assistant dubbed as "Sense Companion," which gives commands on user's simple tasks such as charging the device for trips and recommending good restaurant.

Recently, the company has revealed the pricing of the HTC flagship phones for the U.K. market. The HTC U Ultra is pegged at a price of GBP 649 (approx. Rs. 54,000), while the HTC U Play is priced at GBP 399 (approx. Rs 33,000). Both smartphones is expected to be on sale from March 1.
