Coco Lee Starts ‘18’ World Tour in Shenzhen

On May 6, Chinese singer Coco Lee would begin her world tour by holding the “18” concert at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center. It would be followed by six concerts in Asia.

The Asian leg of the concerts would be in Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an in Shaanxi Province, Chengdu in Sichuan Province, Hong Kong and Taipei. After Asia, Coco Lee who is promoting her latest single titled “18,” would hold concerts in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Toronto, China Daily reported.

Going Back to 18

The Chinese pop singer announced her 2017 “18” concert tour on Feb. 14. Coco Lee explained that she named the tour “18” because she wants to return to the courage, passion and curiosity of an 18-year-woman , she said at the official kickoff of the tour in Shanghai.

Coco Lee rose to fame when she won in 1992 in a new talent singing competition in Hong Kong. She performed at the Oscars when she sang “A Love Before Time,” a best original song nominee from the film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” in 2001. In between, Coco Lee’s 1999 single “Do You Want My Love” entered the U.S. music charts that year and the released several English and Chinese albums.

Six-Year Hiatus

For six years, Coco Lee did not have any public performance until in 2016 she won the “I am a Singer” TV reality show which broadened her fan base to added younger and newer fans. Timeless Treasure, her promoter, convinced her to hold a concert to bring in more fans.

Coco Lee, together with David and Victoria Beckham, Kobe Bryant and other performers sang in 2016 at the yearly Singles’ Day pre-sale gala of the Alibaba Group Holding, the Straits Times reported.
