Even if China’s box-office receipts slowed down in 2016, Hollywood movie producers still consider the country an important film market. A-lister actors going to China to promote their films about to be shown in the second-largest movie market is getting to be a regular thing.
After Ryan Gosling promoted “La La Land” and Vin Diesel promoted “xXx: Return of Xander Cage” in Beijing, now, it is the turn of actor Michael Fassbender to promote “Assassin’s Creed” in the capital city, CRI reported. The movie is set to open in China on Friday, Feb. 24.
Descendants of a Secret Society
The movie is based on the action-adventure video-game series where Fassbender portrays Callum Lynch, who would discover he is a descendant of a secret Assassins society. As the action movie’s producer, Fassbender shared that a 38-meter fall scene in the movie was made by a stuntman, the production did not use special effects.
It is their way of being honest with moviegoers, Fassbender said. He noted that a lot of movies now depend heavily on CGI but that is not how “Assassin’s Creed” approached the whole movie.
Templars vs. Assassins
Besides Fassbender, the film has Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Marion Cotillard and Michael K. Williams as stars. The movie revolves around the centuries-old struggle between the Templars – who want peace through control – and the Assassins who fight for peace with free will. IMAX 3D and 3D versions of the film would be available in China.
Before China, Fassbender also promoted the movie in Japan last week. On March 21, “Assassin’s Creed” would debut in U.S. DVD ad Blu-ray which would include a deleted scene showing a shirtless Fassbender. Director Justin Kurzel said the scene was so complicated and convoluted that he had it cut, Just Jared reported.
