More Japanese TV shows, movies and novels are being adapted for China. Among those given a Chinese treatment is the novel “Detective Galileo” which would be made into a movie “The Devotion of Suspect X.”
Toggle reported on Monday that actress Ruby Lin was named as lead actress of “The Devotion of Suspect X.” In mid-2016, English Media purchased the adaptation right to the novel by Japanese mystery writer Keigo Higashino. Taiwanese actor and singer Alec Su would direct the film which has been adapted before by Japanese and South Korean moviemakers.
Reunion Project
The film would be a reunion between Alec Su and Ruby Lin who starred in 2004 in “Magic Touch of Fate,” a TV series in China. However, for the detective movie, they would not be co-stars but collaborators. The production has been keeping secret the identity of the lead actress for a long time.
However, on Monday, Ruby was identified as the lead actress in the poster of “The Devotion of Suspect X.” She also posted on Weibo about the role of Chen Jing that she got.
Ruby was recently married to Wallace Huo in Bali. She and Alec Su have been friends for a long time since she was single because they worked together in several TV projects together such as “Romance in the Rain” and “My Fair Princess.” Her co-stars in “The Devotion of Suspect X” are Wang Kai and Zhang Luyi who are Chinese actors.
Movie Plot
According to Scroll, “The Devotion of Suspect X” revolves around a single man who goes to extreme length to cover up a murder done by his neighbor and her daughter. The novel by Keigo Higashino is considered a master class in the art of deception since it is not about the murder but the alibi. The murderers as known but what is suspense is if the murderers would be exposed or not.
