Apple may ditch the 16 GB and 32 GB options for its upcoming iPhone 8, continuing the trend set by the iPhone 7. The device's predecessor also tossed out the 16 GB option when it was released, making the 32 GB its smallest capacity.

If rumors that Apple will dump the low-storage option for the flagship device, then the larger-capacity iPhone 8 will limit its smallest size to 64 GB instead of 32 GB. Consequently, the pricing of the new iPhone will be higher than initially projected.

According to CNET, the cost of the premium iPhone 7 will cost more than $1,000, much higher than the cost of a 256 GB iPhone 7 that costs $849. The new iPhone 8 will also introduce new technology like OLED displays, which is another reason for its high price tag.

The largest-capacity iPhone 8 is said to have a 256 GB capacity for apps, photos, and videos. If the 256 GB iPhone 7 already sets customers back with its $849 price tag, it is speculated that the higher price of the cheapest iPhone 8 option might dissuade buyers all the more.

According to Forbes, Apple may also launch a new 5.8-inch version of the iPhone 8 alongside its 4.7 and 5.5-inch versions. The tech giant will also reportedly introduce the removal the physical home button without affecting the display area, which means that the display aspect ratio of the next iPhone 8 will exceed 2:1 while its body size will be similar to that of the 4.7-inch model.

Meanwhile, the 4.7-inch iPhone 7S and 5.5-inch iPhone 7S Plus are said to have as much as 256 GB storage, but there are no confirmed reports yet as to their exact storage capacities. However, there are rumors that the iPhone 7S will be much cheaper compared to other smartphones of its kind. If the rumors are true, then that could mean that Apple will keep its storage low to keep its price down.

The iPhone 8 is expected to be released September this year. Since Apple has not yet confirmed anything, tech enthusiasts should take all these speculations with a grain of salt.
