Reports recently circulated about Jeremy Renner joining the squad of "Ant-Man and the Wasp" as Hawkeye. Unfortunately, director Peyton Reed shot down the rumors and called them "fake news."
There was a lot of buzz surrounding "Ant-Man and the Wasp" recently, especially after it was rumored that Renner would be appearing as Hawkeye in the superhero sequel. The rumor stemmed from a report that Renner could not do "Mission: Impossible 6" due to scheduling conflicts with his Marvel commitments.
Reed silenced the excitement when he tweeted that the news about Renner being in "Ant-Man 2" is completely false. "The Russians are swarm-tweeting that Hawkeye is in ANT-MAN AND THE WASP. #FakeNews," Reed tweeted, at the same time poking fun at the current political climate.
For some fans, having Hawkeye in "Ant-Man and the Wasp" would've made for some interesting team play between Renner's Hawkeye and Paul Rudd's Ant-Man. The two characters first got together in "Captain America: Civil War," in which they were both on Team Cap.
Ant-Man's talkative behavior was a stark contrast to Hawkeye's usually quiet and serious personality, and it appeared as though the two would never get along. However, they ended up having one of the best dynamics in film, which was seen when Ant-Man hitched a ride on Hawkeye's arrow to get inside Iron Man's suit and mess up its system.
In "Ant-Man and the Wasp," Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne takes on The Wasp mantle and fights alongside Ant-Man. In a Facebook post, Michael Douglas also confirmed that he will be back as Hank Pym in the sequel.
Meanwhile, Renner is currently filming "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers 4." Both Rudd and Lilly will also appear in "Infinity War," fighting alongside the core Avengers team and other superheroes in Marvel's stable.
"The Wasp won't be in the first part; she'll be in the second part, because they really want to preserve that reveal for Ant-Man and the Wasp so they can give it its due time," Lilly told Blastr at the New York Comic Con.
"Ant-Man and the Wasp" is expected to hit theaters on July 6, 2018.
