King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Two Hollywood movies are hoping to benefit from good box-office results by having a simultaneous premiere in China and the U.S., the two largest movie markets in the world, in May.

2 Hollywood Movies

On May 5, Disney would debut “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." On May 12, Warner Bros. would show “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” in the two countries, Variety reported. The two Hollywood producers hope to duplicate the box-office success of “Kong: Skull Island” which earned $22.5 million on its opening day in China in late March.

James Gunn, director of “Guardians,” tweeted on Saturday that he is so happy over the film getting an opening day in China the same as in the U.S. Disney and Chris Pratt, an actor in the movie, also announced over the weekend on Chinese social media the date of the film’s premiere and posted a poster in Chinese language.

Disney is hopeful that the volume 2 would do well in China like the original “Guardians” movie which debuted in October 2014 and earned 596 million or $86.4 million at current exchange rates. Warner announced the China date premiere of “King Arthur,” directed by Guy Ritchie, on its Weibo account.

New Poster

A new poster for “King Arthur” showed actor Charlie Hunnam who plays the title role of King Arthur, Comicbook reported. The other actors in the upcoming period film are Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Eric Bana, Annabelle Wallis, Aidan Gillen and Hermione Corfield.

A co-production movie, “The Foreigner,” got a Sept. 29 release date in China, STX Entertainment announced last week in Las Vegas at CinemaCon. Chinese actor Jackie Chan is the star of the comedy action movie. The very early announcement of its debt is considered unusual. SR Media in China co-produced the movie.
