An 18-minute short film by Jia Zhangke will be screened in this year's BRICS film fest.

The sophomore edition of the BRICS film fest is slated to be held in China this coming June 23 until 27, according to an article by The Hindu.

Citing an official press release, the report stated that for this year's festival, a total of 30 films from BRICS nations will be screened. The political cluster is composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The roster of films that can be watched in the second BRICS film fest will also include an anthology helmed by five directors from the said countries titled, "Where Has the Time Gone."

The directors who worked on the project, which consists of five 18-minute short films revolving around the same theme, are Brazil's Walter Salles, Russia's Aleksey Fedorchenko, India's Madhur Bhandarkar, South Africa's Jahmil X. T. Qubeka and China's Jia Zhangke, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

According to Jia, the collaborative effort will depict the strengthened ties and communication among the BRICS countries' respective film industries.

"The emotions from all five stories can be shared by anyone in any country," said the award-winning director, whose works include "Mountains May Depart," "A Touch of Sin" and "Still Life."

The inaugural BRICS film fest was held in September last year. The event was hosted by New Delhi, India.

For the festival's second season, Chinese director Xie Fei will serve as the president of the jury.

The anticipated event will come ahead of the BRICS Summit, which is scheduled later in September this year in Xiamen City, Fujian Province.

The theme of this year's BRICS Summit is "BRICS: Stronger Partnership for a Brighter Future," according to the event's official website.

A statement posted on the same site further noted that "China looks forward to earnestly implementing the leaders' consensus and working with all the other members for an enhanced BRICS Partnership."
