Among the more than 10 Chinese movies awarded on Saturday at the 50th yearly WorldFest-Houston, “Reset” was the big winner. The film is a science fiction movie supervised by action star Jackie Chan.
The movie won two awards. The first was the Best Actress Remi Award given to Yang Mi. The second was the Remi Award-Best in Show, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Time Travel Movie
Jackie Chan is the supervising executive producer of “Reset.” The movie is about a mother who time travels twice to save her only son. The film, which had its world premiere in Houston, would debut in China in June, China Daily reported.
Jason Huang, executive director at New Clues Film, the producer of “Reset,” said the film, their first try at sci-fi, used 2,000 special effects frames. Huang said he is aware their film is a far cry from big-budgeted action films from Hollywood which often begins at $200 million, while New Clues spent only $20 million for “Reset.”
WorldFest-Houston is the third-largest film festival in North America. The 10-day festival, which began on April 21, debuted 88 feature films and over 100 short movies from more than 30 countries and regions.
Panorama China Platform
The filmfest established five decades ago, has Panorama China, a platform that showed 33 movies from the Asian giant. Among the movies shown during the festival that ended on Sunday was “Five Besties-Divoice Busting,” a comedy and romantic film by Chen Jianfei which got the Gold Remi Award. “Masters in Forbidden City” and “Survival in Shanghai,” two documentaries, won the Special Jury Remi Award and Gold Remi Award, respectively. A Chinese actor, Sun Chun, received the Outstanding Contribution Award.
The Houston Film Festival opened the Panorama China platform in 2014 when Hunter Todd, founder and CEO of WorldFest-Houston, realized the value and how excellent Chinese filmmakers craft movies. He noted that besides being one of the largest film producers in the world, Chinese are good in making movies.
