Disneyland is making cinema history by holding the world premiere of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” in China on May 11. Flying in for the event are stars of the movie such as Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom.

The world premiere comes ahead of the debut of the movie simultaneously in China and North America on May 26, China.org reported. The world premiere and simultaneous open indicate how important the Chinese film market has become to Hollywood studios since it became the second-largest film market in the world.

Other Movie Actors

Besides Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, also arriving for the May 11 world premiere are actors Geoffrey Rush, Javier Bardem and Brenton Thwaites. With them are the two directors of the movie, Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning. To join them at Disneyland Shanghai, which would turn one year on June 16, is producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

However, Cinema Blend reported that Orlando Bloom may have dropped a spoiler when he indicated his role in the film is not a major one. He was quoted as saying, “My 6-year-old is desperate to see me in it. I’m not in it much but I don’t care that I just bookend it.” The trailers seem to confirm what Orlando Bloom said since the focus was on the characters played by Johnny Depp, Brenton Thwaites and Carina Smythe.

Disney Ride

One of the featured rides at Disneyland Shanghai is Pirates of the Caribbean, also a popular ride in other Disney parks. The one in China has the newest characters from the film, such as Captain Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones who has an octopus face. The movie, the fifth in the franchise, is based on the Disneyland ride.

The last four installments of the franchise shown since 2003 have a combined box office of over $3.7 billion. On May 5, when “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” premieres in China, Disney would screen a five-minute extended sequence of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” before the Marvel movie opens.
