Scream's trailer begins in the same manner as the first film did. Jenna Ortega is attacked by the new Ghostface while she's alone at home, and Dewey is quick to call Sidney to let her know there is once again a killer on the loose. "It's happening. Three attacks so far," Dewey declares. "Something about this one just feels different."

Mellisa Barrera's Samantha catches up with Sidney. Ghostface appears to be after Sam, and Sidney might just know why. All of the recent attacks targeted those who had connections to the original killers, Stu Macher and Billy Loomis.

The sheer determination courses through Sidney. As she sets out a course to get to the bottom of what's been happening as she decides to return to Stu's house, the place that started it all.

Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette return for the fifth edition of the Scream franchise, which will be released nearly 26 years after the original. Melissa, Jenna, Jack Quaid, Dylan Minnette, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mikey Madison, Sonia Ammar, Mason Gooding, and Kyle Gallner will be joining the original trio as new cast members. Marley Shelton, who made her debut in Scream 4, will also make a cameo appearance.

Campbell told Jamie Lee Curtis of Variety that she was quite apprehensive about the idea of doing another movie for the franchise and that people asked her in the past if she would like to make another one without Wes.

She went on saying that it would be quite difficult to do so because they consider themselves as a faimly and that Wes was the master of these kinds of films. But shortly after, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet wrote her a letter that convinced her to come back.

The movie's official poster was released on October 10 and prominently featured Ghostface. "It's always someone you know." the tagline stated.

While fans refer to the film as Scream 5, the actual and official title for the film is Scream. Courteney Cox said on The Drew Barrymore Show, "This is the fifth in the series. However, this is not Scream 5, this is Scream." back in the summer of May 2021. She continues by making remarks about the filmmakers and their resolve to establish this as a brand new franchise. "It's cool, it's frightening, and it's just a fresh Scream."

When Kevin Williamson - the screenwriter for Scream, Scream 2, and now Scream 5 - publicized the film's title in November 2020, he stated that this movie will be a "relaunch of the franchise." What this implies for the long-time fans remains to be seen. Scream is scheduled to open in theaters on January 14, 2022.
