BTS Becomes The First Asian Group To Win 'Artist Of The Year' Award At 2021 AMAs, Creates History

South-Korean superstars BTS won big at the 2021 American Music Awards on Sunday. The K-pop idols bagged three awards at the ceremony, winning the trophies for all the categories that they were nominated in.

BTS also created history at the 2021 AMAs by becoming the first Asian group ever to win the "Artist of the Year" at the show. They also became the first non-Americans to win the award since One Direction's win in 2015.

The Bangtan Boys defeated The Weeknd, Olivia Rodrigo, Ariana Grande, Drake, and Taylor Swift who were nominated in the same category. The popular artists also lifted the trophy for the "Favourite Pop Song" for "Butter".

All seven members of the supergroup were in attendance including J-Hope, Jungkook, V, Jimin, Jin, Suga, and RM. While giving the acceptance speech, RM said that he was nervous and that he had seriously forgotten what he had to say. The singer added that BTS was truly honored to be on the AMA stage with such tremendous, amazing artists. He also added that four years ago, the group had given their first AMA stage performance and they were simultaneously excited and nervous then.

It had been an amazing, long ride since then but nobody could ever bet the odds of them standing at the same stage to receive the "Artist of the Year" award, except for the loyal fandom ARMY, RM added.

The singer went on to say that seven boys from Korea who were united by a love for music met the support and love from all the ARMY worldwide. RM further said that the whole thing is a miracle and that they would never take all this for granted.

BTS's Jungkook also took the mic to say that BTS just wants to make people happy with their music. He added that the band believes that there is a world to open at the starting of their new chapter and that in the past two years they learned that each and every moment is precious.

On a lighter moment, BTS's AMA acceptance speech and the phrase "Please Wrap It Up" are going viral on the net. It is because while Jungkook was giving his speech, several minutes had already gone by since BTS had come on stage to accept the award, and the prompter started flashing "Please Wrap It Up".

It is then that V started gesturing that the remaining members should also get a go at thanking, and made a sign that Jungkook should be taken away from the mic. Promptly, Jin literally dragged Jungkook away from the mic.

The whole situation left the ARMy confused about whether to laugh or be angry. While it all looked hilarious, the fans believe that since was the first time BTS spoke to ARMY, though via an acceptance speech, they should have been given the liberty to speak at length.

The 49th Annual AMAs were held on November 21 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
