BTS members found themselves in a very unlikely controversy when singer SZA misled fans with unclear and wrong comments.
K-pop idol V, who is a member of the South-Korean supergroup BTS, found himself in the middle of a racism controversy despite no fault.
Recently, BTS members J-Hope, Jungkook, Jimin, and Jimin had attended the Harry Styles concert that took place in Los Angeles. The boys shared space with singers Lizzo and SZA in the celebrity stand, from where all of them were watching the concert.
Later on, SZA tweeted about her experience of meeting the BTS boys. It is this tweet that led to controversy. A netizen asked the American singer-songwriter about her experience of meeting four of the Bangtan Boys.
SZA retorted to the fan's question replying that Lizzo was trying to introduce her to the BTS members, but they did not care. Moreover, she added that the K-pop artists did not know who she was but they were nice.
It was this "they don't care" part of the sentence that raised hackles because it sounded like a misleading statement. Later on, SZA said that she did not actually interact with members of BTS. However, many videos surfaced showing SZA being hugged by V. SZA's fans accused V and the other BTS members of racism.
Soon, BTS's official fandom the ARMY as well as fans of Harry Styles jumped to the boy bands' defense. They pointed out that SZA lied about not interacting with the boys and also praised V for being respectful and warm to an individual who had tried to use BTS to gain an advantage of the moment.
The ARMY also reminded the American singer that J-Hope had played her track on his birthday during a live session. Moreover, she had shared the same on her Instagram stories at that time.
Since then SZA has deleted the tweet and she has yet to apologize for making the misleading comments and the ensuing controversy and maligning. However, BTS fans have asked SZA to apologize for the statement.
The singer also responded to all the speculation with another tweet that said she would be misunderstood till the day she died, so she might as well enjoy it.
BTS fans again responded to her clarification and said that there was a lot of difference between being misunderstood and being caught lying. They accused the singer of lying about not interacting with BTS when multiple videos clearly show she did.
