2015 Kia Soul EV low-volume electric car-wagons got yet another recall.
A much higher number of 2014 and 2015 Soul gasoline models are being recalled due to the need to replace fragile accelerator pedals. The pedals used in the affected cars could break, and thus making it difficult for the driver to manipulate the automobile's speed and heightens the risk of loss of control or an accident.
The breakable pedals were produced by Donghee Ind. Co., Ltd., a South Korean supplier.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found out that the unsupported part of the pedal is likely to bend and break when too much force is applied to it. The agency's report disclosed that there is a possibility to occur while the vehicle is stationary, most probably from a forceful push to the accelerator pedal when the driver tries to pull away from a stop, according to Green Car Reports.
To correct the mentioned problem, all Kia dealers will add an extra rubber underneath the pedal stopper. The recall is expected to start this March 24, and Kia motors will notify owners of the affected cars directly. Charges will be waived for the services rendered or the service visit or the additional, part if any.
The affected Soul and Soul EV models were manufactured between July 21, 2013 and Jan. 8, 2015. All of the affected automobiles that need to be recalled were all registered in the United States.
That will encompass 208,858vehicles. However, it could only be a small portion of those. Around 1,000 vehicles are Soul EV electric cars, Yahoo! Autos reported.
