Following a match-up with ex-WWE superstar Rey Mysterio, Perro Aguayo Jr. also known as El Hijo del Perro Aguayo, a popular Mexican Lucha wrestler and promoter, died due to injuries suffered during the wrestling match.

The 35-year-old Aguayo, had been a veteran wrestler with a career that had lasted for 20 years, he was the son of the legendary Pedro "Perro" Aguayo, now retired and a member of the Aztec Lucha hall of fame.

Reports suggest that Aguayo Jr had received cervical trauma during the match, when Mysterio delivered a drop kick to setup the stage for his signature finishing move "619", according to Figure Four Online.

The match continued for two minutes before it was realized that Aguayo Jr was seriously injured and needed medical attention. He was taken to Hospital del Prado in Tijuana which was a block away from the wrestling event arena. He died at 1:30 am.

According to sources at Hospital del Prado in Tijuana, where Aguayo Jr. was taken, the severe spinal trauma had occurred when the ropes had snapped his neck, which happened when he landed in an awkward manner after the drop kick delivered by Mysterio.

The Baja California state prosecutors office has opened up an investigation against possible manslaughter following the death of Aguayo Jr, as reported by the Associated Press. Several wrestlers tweeted their condolences including wrestler TJ Perkins who was present during the match.

This was Mysterio's second time wrestling after he departed from World Wrestling Federation.
