Google's Eric Schmidt confirmed that while the original version of the product has been shuttered down, Google Glass 2.0 is currently under development and will be showcased once it's ready for consumers.

When the company announced that the project is being closed down, people who were eagerly looking forward to a futuristic world were disappointed. The last glass was sold for $1,500 but its sales was stopped in January.

Explaining about the recent events, Schmidt said that the company closed down the explorer program but the media promoted it in a wrong way. They assumed that the entire project is being shut down.

"Similar to Google's driverless cars, Glass is a project which is under development and it has to undergo a wide range of changes before it can become a mainstream product. It has always been about enduring risky ventures at the company. One just can't say automatic cars are dead just because they are not in the streets yet," clarified Schmidt, as reported by the Verge.

Reports confirm that Google Glass 2.0 is under development which will have an affordable price tag and will be designed in a way that users could enjoy its features with their existing eyewear. The company is planning to come up with a product that is comfortable to wear and doesn't look like a prototype safety glasses.

According to the reports made by Tomsguide, the next version of the glass will be revealed before the end of 2015 but it doesn't have a confirmed release date yet.
