Masseuses grab the lead in receiving the highest salary among Chinese female "new" blue-collar workers.

Masseuses receive the highest salary among the female workers in the “new” blue-collar groups with an average salary of 6,214 yuan, according to a Ganji.com report posted on Tuesday, March 24.

According to the classified ad website, being a masseuse is the sole position that has reached an above 6,000-yuan mark for the so-called new blue-collar groups.

These blue-collar groups include house agents, security guards, couriers, hairdressers, beauticians and sales personnel.

Beijing-based masseuses earn the highest with 7,321 yuan average monthly salary. Meanwhile, infant-care nurses and midwives landed on the second spot with a salary of 7,149 yuan.

In general, Chinese female workers in the blue-collar groups expect a pre-tax salary of 4,276 yuan. Blue-collar workers in Shenzhen and Shanghai earn the highest with 5,033 yuan and 5,000 yuan, respectively.

Beijing blue-collar workers were recorded as the third highest income earners with 4,881 yuan.

The report also showed female blue-collar workers earn nearly 1,200 yuan less than their male counterparts.

However, despite the high salary, an issue that plagues the female workers is gender discrimination. The Ganji.com report showed that 46 percent among those polled suffer from employment and promotion discrimination.

Meanwhile, 44 percent encountered another kind of gender discrimination--unequal salary.

In addition, the report also showed that 89 percent of the female blue-collar workers who are also parents said that they went to cities for higher salaries and left their children in their rural hometown.
