Judge Sherry Stephens sentenced Jodi Arias, the woman who murdered her ex-boyfriend due to jealousy, to life in prison with no parole on Monday.

According to Fox News, Arias murdered her ex-boyfriend identified as Travis Alexander back in 2008 as they went through and on-again-off-again relationship. Arias killed Alexander after he tried to break up with her and he allegedly planned a trip to Mexico with another woman.

Arias then shot him and stabbed him almost 30 times in his home in Phoenix. Arias then fled and met up with another romantic interest before being arrested weeks after.

Arias kept on changing her story saying that masked men were the ones who killed Alexander and also told jurors at one point that it was just self-defense because her ex-boyfriend attacked her earlier.

Stephens was given a choice between giving Arias death penalty or life in prison a month ago and she declined to allow the 34-year-old to be released after 25 years under certain terms.

Arias told Stephens that she would rather be dead because it will give her peace and freedom and that she regrets stabbing Alexander in the throat as she shared she wished there was a way to take her actions back.

During the trial on Monday, Arias was with her mother while the siblings and other relatives of Alexander were there as well. According to court statements, the aunt of Alexander, Heather Schafer, asked the judge to give Arias the maximum penalty so as not to let her be given any chance to destroy other lives.

Alexander's sister, Samantha, shared with UT San Diego that her brother was in his house for five days rotting in the shower before police officials found him. The family of Alexander also told the publication that although they are happy with the decision, they no longer want to remember his death because it hurts too much.
