Google's Android

The Nexus has almost reached its end of lifetime because there are so many new phones with powerful hardware but owners can still enjoy the Android 5.1 Lollipop update on it.

Even though, it was originally released two and a half years ago, the phone sports a great screen combined with powerful hardware that could easily adopt the Lollipop update. As with the tradition, Google rolled out the operating system to all their Nexus devices including the older smartphones and tablets.

The problem with Android 5.0 Lollipop is that it did deliver the material design as promised but the performance issues, bugs were too many that users had a tough time using it. It even bricked some of the devices as soon as the update was rolled out. The developers assure that it will be solved with the 5.1 update.

According to a report by Android Police, the 5.1 Lollipop update for older Nexus 4 devices are available for download from a third party source. Users who prefer to avoid malware and other issues should wait because Google is yet to officially roll it out through their Play store.

The size of the update is confirmed to be at 174 MB and users who have already done operating system updates by manually downloading the APK file can do it. They have to download the file from a trusted source, transfer it using a micro USB cable and unpack it with the help of a file manager.

The update brings a whole load of bug fixes which will make the OS much better than it already is and will also solve other issues including wifi problems, battery life among others, reported AndroidandMe.
