It seems like the end of an era as supermodel Gisele Bundchen announces her retirement from the runway show. The supermodel sashayed down the runway for the last time at Sau Paulo Fashion show on Wednesday.
Earlier, the 34-year-old mother of two uploaded a throwback picture of her teens to announce the retirement from the runway modelling world.
"I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey," wrote the Brazilian beauty to caption the pic. "Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business."
Married to NFL star Tom Brady, Bundchen is undoubtedly one of the most successful models of present times. She has successfully spent two decades in the otherwise short lived career of runway modelling, a feat which is achieved by only a couple of other supermodels like Kate Moss, Access Hollywood reported.
Born in Brazil with a fraternal twin, Bundchen was discovered by the Elite modelling agency in a shopping mall in Sao Paulo. At the age of 14, she moved to New York where she got her first big break.
The model secured her first Vogue cover in 1998. By the time she turned 20, Bundchen had become a modelling sensation by bagging major modelling assignments and appearing on the cover of several fashion magazines worldwide. As a matter of fact, she is the only model to appear in 10 major magazine covers in a span of less than four years.
Bundchen was also one of the Victoria's Secret Angels from 2000 to 2007. The model's success marked an end to the era of ultra skinny, sick looking models as she was a welcome change after the "heroin chic" phase of runway shows.
In her last runway walk, the supermodel was seen walking for Colcci, a brand which she has endorsed since 2005. The model was given a grand farewell with her entry marked by uptempo indie-rock track and dim lights. Daily Mail reported that the model's proud husband and parents were also present on the occasion who watched her last runway walk from front row seats.
At the end of the show, the supermodel was joined by other models who sported white T-Shirts printed with her chiselled face as a honour to her brilliant runway career.
