‘The Divergent Series: Allegiant’ Has Found A New Villain

After the success of the film predecessors of "The Divergent Series" franchise, the production team reveals that Jeff Daniels is in negotiations to be part of the third installment of the series - "Allegiant."

"Dumb & Dumber" actor Daniels will play the role of David in both "Allegiant: Part 1" and "Allegiant: Part 2," as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Born in Athens, Georgia, the actor is known for his roles in films such as "Dumb & Dumber" (1994), "Speed" (1994), "Looper" (2012), and "Good Night, and Good Luck" (2005). His other projects this year include Danny Boyle's biopic "Steve Jobs" and Ridley Scott's action-adventure "The Martian."

Daniels' character, David, is the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. The agency is the mastermind in helming the social order in which Tris Prior and Tobias Eaton are living. The true intention behind the creation of the experimental world is said to be malevolent and it is to be revealed in "Allegiant: Part 2"

According to Screen Rant, "Allegiant" is the recent prominent prject Daniels will have signed on for following the conclusion of the HBO series "The Newsroom" last year.

Robert Schwentke is set to helm "Allegiant: Part 1" while there is no information yet on the director of "Allegiant: Part 2." Lucy Fisher, Pouya Shahbazian, and Douglas Wick are in charge of the production while Noah Oppenheim is on board to pen the screenplay.

"Allegiant" is Lionsgate's film adaptation of the best-selling young adult novel of the same name, authored by Veronica Roth. It centers on Shailene Woodley's Prior and Theo James' Tobias Eaton, a.k.a. Four, as they go into the world outside of the fence. They are taken into reserved safekeeping by an enigmatic agency known as the Bureau of Genetic Welfare.

"Allegiant: Part 1" is slated to premiere in theaters on Mar. 18, 2016 while "Allegiant: Part 2" is set to hit the big screen on Mar. 24, 2017.
