Amazon China Now Offers Fresh Produce, Meat, Seafood and Cakes

A study suggests a correlation with children who are picky eaters and psychological disorders.

Chinese people who regularly order products from Amazon are now free to order the freshest produce from local suppliers. Analogous to the company’s Amazon Fresh, Amazon’s new section for its Chinese store now offers fruits and vegetables, meat, seafood, and even cakes.

Amazon has just added another reason not go to the supermarkets.

The company has tied up with suppliers and local food chains in order to be able to offer its customers 600 fresh food items. Unlike in the United States where the logistics is handled by Amazon itself, Amazon China's version of Amazon Fresh will rely on suppliers to meet demands.

According to Chinese tech website Tech in Asia, Amazon China's take on Amazon Fresh will be able to deliver nationwide, but such trips would, of course, take a few days especially if buyers are living outside China's major cities.

Amazon China is not the first e-commerce company to make this move. In fact, the company's move into fresh groceries is quite late. E-commerce rivals such as Walmart's Yihodian, Alibaba's Tmall, and JD have been offering Chinese consumers fresh produce for quite some time already.

The popular e-commerce company has also struggled to grab hold of a part of China's marketplace, as Amazon China is constantly overtaken by Alibaba's two marketplaces, Taobao and Tmall. Other e-commerce rivals such as Suning and JD have also proved hard to beat.

Despite the challenges, Amazon China still earns a considerable amount of profit.

Amazon China was the nation's 8th largest e-commerce store in 2014. The company held a market share of only 1.3 percent in transaction value.
