"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 is fuelling a lot of speculations among fans who are still grieving the death of (spoiler alert) Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd a.k.a. McDreamy. Among several items in publications and forum sites is the possible return of Katherine Heigl as Izzie Stevens.

Izzie Stevens left Grey Sloan Memorial when it was still Seattle Grace, soon after Derek fixed her brain. She got skin cancer; it quickly spread to her brain, and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) was heartbroken. Derek and Meredith were getting married, but they gave Izzie and Alex everything they have prepared for the wedding. It was beautiful, and then it got ugly.

The rumored rift between Heigl, "Grey's Anatomy" series creator Shonda Rhimes and the rest of the show's writers have been the subject of many reports. Wetpaint sums up the issues in its recent report, which also says Heigl can pull in some curious viewers if she does return as Izzie.

Should Izzie Stevens return to "Grey's Anatomy?" There is a different answer for each type of audience. Those who are very happy with Karev and Jo Wilson's (Camilla Luddington) relationship believe the couple does not need a new problem. Others believe Izzie could push Jo to a place where she would not freak out the next time Karev asks her to marry him.

However, many fans are not convinced that Shondaland boss Shonda Rhimes would allow Katherine Heigl to come back to "Grey's Anatomy." Still, no hope is lost, considering that Isaiah Washington, who was widely believed to have been fired from the show, also managed to return albeit for a while in Season 10.

Katherine Heigl recently topbilled NBC's political drama, "State of Affairs." The network cancelled the series after only one season.
