Sony is currently developing the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for its flagship Xperia series for its July release.
Currently, Sony is seeding the Android Lollipop 5.0 update to the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 devices. The company is not releasing the update for the Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua users. The reasons behind not releasing the update for the M2 and M2 Aqua users are not clear.
The exact timeline and schedule of releasing the Android 5.1 Lollipop update is not known. It will definitely vary as per the carriers and the international regions, but the update will start rolling out in July, for sure, according to NDTV.
The devices that will get the OS update are:
1) Sony Xperia Z series: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z
2) Sony Xperia Z1 series: Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z Ultra GPE
3) Sony Xperia Z2 series: Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet
4) Sony Xperia Z3 series: Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
5) Sony Xperia C3
6) Sony Xperia T2 Ultra
7) Sony Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua
Even though the M2 and M2 Aqua are still in the KitKat stage, they will still be getting the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, according to Phandroid.
The upcoming Android Lollipop 5.1 update boasts of numerous features like enhanced stability and a better Android Run Time. In the previous versions, there were a lot of issues with "Okay Google," which are now addressed in the latest version.
