Eastern Star Tragedy: Rescuers Throw Flowers in River as Families Mourn Loss of Their Loved Ones

A mourning ceremony is held on June 7, 2015, for nearly 400 deceased of a capsized cruise ship on the Yangtze River in central China's Hubei Province.

Chinese rescuers and families bewailed the hapless fate of the 432 dead passengers of the cruise ship Eastern Star, which capsized in the Yangtze River due to a tornado encounter.

A three-minute tribute where people offered flowers and ship horns wailed was given at around 9 a.m. on June 7, Sunday, the seventh day after the tragedy.

The country's top officials issued all-out search and rescue operations for the victims since day one.

According to data, the ship had 450 passengers on board.

The disaster becomes China's worst since 1948, when SS Kiangya sank off Shanghai with between 2,750 to 4,000 passengers.
