Is Jon Snow Really Dead? ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 5 Finale Killed Ned's Bastard Son

Kit Harington is believed to reprise his role as Jon Snow in "Game Of Thrones" season 6.

One of the highlights of "Game Of Thrones" season 5 finale episode titled "Mother's Mercy," which aired on June 15, Sunday, is the death of Lord Eddard "Ned" Stark's (Sean Bean) bastard son Jon Snow played by Kit Harington, 28.

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, "Game Of Thrones" season 5 finale episode director David Nutter talked about what Harington's last day on set was like. The director described the British actor as "a consummate professional."

"It wasn't unlike the Red Wedding where everyone gets attached to people when you work with them for such a long time," Nutter explained. "You really grow quite fond of each other. You're family."

"It was a lot of sadness on the set," Nutter said and pointed out that the "Game Of Thrones" crew knew Harington really well.

Considering the ambiguity of George R. R. Martin's book and the fact that Harington's exit from "Game Of Thrones" looked final, Nutter was asked whether or not it is safe to say that Jon Snow is dead.

"Jon Snow is dead," Nutter simply replied.

On the other hand, MTV argues that Harington may still play Jon Snow in "Game Of Thrones" season 6 because it is his destiny, he is a warg and Melisandre (Carice van Houten) and the Night's King (Richard Brake) are nearby.

Nutter did not give more details to Jon Snow's death. Instead, he pointed out that the "Game Of Thrones" extras who play the members of the Night's Watch take their roles very seriously and he took them aside and read the Night's Watch creed together before shooting the sequence.

"Without them being involved, it wouldn't have worked as well," Nutter said of the actors playing the members of the Night's Watch. "I wanted the scene to happen rather quickly, where it didn't hang at all. That it would happen before you know it."
