Many experts see China’s assertiveness in such issues as the country’s way in showing the world its potential for global leadership.

Lang Lang, a famous figure in the classical music scene in China, spoke in an event organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) at Renmin University, Beijing, on Sunday, June 14. The famous classical pianist voiced out his support on quality care for children during the early stages of development.

Appointed as a U.N. Messenger of Peace, Lang also shared his hopes that all children could enjoy an excellent start in life. The early needs of children should not only be considered by their respective parents, but by the global development agenda as a matter of priority.

Aside from speaking in the event, Lang also visited a kindergarten and shot a public welfare information film. As somebody who has benefited from the gifts art lessons and other comprehensive courses can bring, Lang encourages such programs to children for they also encourage interaction.

"This was an effective way to guide children, parents and teachers," said Lang.

The early stages of development of a child are also crucial in his values formation; world values that were taught to him as a kid can significantly affect the way he perceives the world as an adult.

Doctor Chen, who works with UNICEF's China branch as a specialist of education and children's development, agrees with Lang on his opinions about children's early development.

"Scientific studies have shown that the quality of children's early experiences has a great impact on their whole life, and it is also an important way to maintain socially sustainable development. What's more, such early development tallies closely with levels of poverty in a country," he stated.

Lang, who has shared his musical genius to the world, has been a UNICEF goodwill ambassador for a decade. An advocate of children's rights, the U.N. Messenger of Peace has attended many events to promote better education for children across the world.
