YouTube sensation Tyler Oakley, 26, was recently nominated as Social Superstar of the Year at the MTV Fandom Awards.
The online and TV personality tweeted the news and expressed gratitude for the honor. Oakley used to be a member of the successful LGBTQ collaboration channel "5AwesomeGays" and has been dishing out sage advice on various topics ranging from using hair color to dealing with bullies.
The awarding of winners of the MTV Fandom Awards is slated on July 9 at the San Diego Comic Con, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Oakley has gained legions of fans since he began uploading videos back in 2007. What started out as a hobby turned into a flourishing career. The YouTube sensation sometimes plays games with a guest artist on YouTube.
The out gay celebrity with the gift of gab is slated to hold shows in San Francisco, San Diego, and Anaheim, Calif., this June before proceeding to other cities in the United States in July. "Tyler Oakley's Slumber Party" will also head towards Australia for a series of shows in September.
Oakley has endeared himself to his fans not only for his entertaining YouTube posts but also for his LGBTQ advocacy. During his birthday, he chanelled his strong online presence to raise a whopping $525,704 to kickstart projects aimed at brightening the future of LGBTQ youth, according to The Trevor Project.
When not busy with philanthropic activities, Oakley does hosting jobs. The energetic host has interviewed famous celebrities like Paris Hilton, Ashanti, and many others.
In 2014, Oakley won Choice Web Star for the male category as well as the Choice Web Collaboration award with Troye Sivan for The Boyfriend Tag at the Teen Choice Awards. The TV and online personality also received the Streamys ICON Award in 2014 in recognition of his talent and contributions to the online video community.
