Netflix has unveiled another member of its royal cast for the upcoming drama series, "The Crown." Matt Smith, who plays the doctor role in the adventure drama "Doctor Who," will play the role of the Duke of Edinburgh in Netflix's royal drama.

Joining Smith in "The Crown" cast are "Wolf Hall" actress Clair Foy as Queen Elizabeth II and "Third Rock From the Sun" actor John Lithgow as Sir Winston Churchill, according to Mashable.

Aside from "Doctor Who," Smith is also known for his roles in Ryan Gosling's fantasy drama "Lost River" and Benedek Fliegauf's sci-fi drama "Womb." The actor will be next seen in Alan Taylor's action sci-fi "Terminator Genisys," which will hit theaters on July 1.

"The Crown" is a decades-spanning story, which follows Queen Elizabeth II and the Prime Ministers who collaborated on improving the Great Britain after the war. The series is set to have 10 episodes, which will explore different periods of Elizabeth II's time in power, according to Variety.

Written by "The Queen" author Peter Morgan, the series' concept is inspired by the West End Play "The Audience," which starred Helen Mirren, who also played Queen Elizabeth II in Miramax's "The Queen," which Morgan also wrote.

Stephen Daldry, Philip Martin, and Julian Jarrold are set to direct "The Crown," with Andrew Eaton acting as the series producer.

Left bank Pictures and Sony Pictures TV are in-charge of the production of Netflix's "The Crown," along with Morgan, Matthew Byam Shaw, Robert Fox, Tanya Seghatchian, Suzanne Mackie, Andy Harries, Philip Martin, and Stephen Daldry as executive producers.

"The Crown" is slated to premiere in 2016.
