Moto X 1st Gen (2013) And Moto X 2nd Gen (2014) To Get Android 5.1 Lollipop Update Next Week; Sony To Roll Out 5.1 update To Entire Xperia Z line, M2 Aqua And M2

The Android 5.1 Lollipop update will roll out on the Moto X 1st Gen (2013) and Moto X 2nd Gen (2014) next week.

Motorola's David Schuster said that the Android 5.1 soak testing is already being carried out for Moto X (2013) and Moto X (2014) in several regions. The OS rollout is expected to start in the third week of this month.

Schuster said that the Moto X first generation soak testing has already begun in Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, India, Oman, Spain, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Australia, Belgium and Italy.

He further said that soak testing for the Moto X second generation has already started for retail channels in Italy, Denmark, Singapore, Sweden, Poland, New Zealand, Philippines, Norway, Netherlands, Malaysia, Indonesia, Belgium, Hong Kong, Australia and Greece.

There are some owners in particular regions who may have already got the the Android 5.1 Lollipop update; however, the large scale soak testing is expected to have the OS available for more owners throughout the world.

Schuster said that if everything goes well, the update should be available for both devices in the upcoming few weeks. He added that they already addressed the problem that they found in earlier soak test.

According to Android Central, the Moto X owners who get the Lollipop update should expect to find performance enhancements and various feature upgrades. The update made the operating system more stable and fixed various bugs.

Meanwhile, the electronics manufacturer Sony announced through their official blog that they would be rolling out Android Lollipop 5.1 pretty soon.

According to the blog post, the company is ready to roll out updates to the entire Xperia Z line -  the Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia ZR, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z, along with the Xperia C3 and Xperia T2 Ultra next month.

In addition, older phone models such as the Xperia M2 Aqua and Xperia M2 will be updated from Android 4.4 Kitkat to Android 5.1 Lollipop update straightaway. Reports suggest that the upgrade will come to both devices after the release of those for the Xperia Z line.

However, Sony said that the time of release and availability may differ depending on the mobile carrier and the region of the owner. The update will include performance improvements and several bug fixes. In addition, it will include all the core features of the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system.
