iPhone 6 (L), iPhone 6 Plus (R)

The next iPhone release date will likely happen no later than September 25 this 2015, a new report said. Once unboxed, the new device will take the name iPhone 6S though Apple labelling its upcoming flagship iPhone 7 remains a high possibility.

Picking up a blog post, Business Insider reported that Apple will officially introduce the replacement to the iPhone 6 on September 18 and will take preorders on the same day. Seven days after, the 6S (or iPhone 7) will begin its global rollout, gradually hitting store shelves on key markets.

Prior to the actual debut, the specs and features packed with the device have been the subject of wild speculations. Thankfully, most of what will be unleashed have somewhat been established and here are a few to expect:

Two models

In 2014, Apple unpacked two iPhones, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch 6 Plus and the likelihood is the refresh will take the same course. That means the rollout this 2015 involves a regular iPhone 6S with the same size as that of its predecessor and the jumbo 6S Plus that will serve as the tech giant's second phablet offering.

It might be that there might be a slight bump up in the next iPhone dimensions, according to a recent note issued by KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo. Kuo claimed that the 2015 iPhones will be slightly taller, wider and thicker and the adjustment is caused by the inclusion of Force Touch sensor the phone display panel.

4-inch edition

It is likely too that a third model will join the pack and the reason for this is to meet the needs of a segment of iPhone users who still prefer the smaller handset profile. But Kuo is convinced that the iPhone 6C will not arrive until the first quarter of 2016.

Robust build

The next iPhone models will reportedly make use of Series 7000 aluminum as the dominant casing material, which according to Apple will make its flagship 60 percent tougher than the last make. Sapphire coating may finally be utilized as the glass coating but this happening remains in iffy state.

Massive camera jump

Apple has largely avoided the camera megapixel race that other device vendors were engaged in but the company has manage to come up with a shooting package that many experts said is the best in the industry. This year, the iPhone main cam is rumored to bump up the rear sensor to 12MP with dual-sensor for generating DSLR-class videos and images and 3D capabilities.

A9 application processor

From A8 in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the next iPhone is said to be powered by the mightier and faster A9 chip that reportedly will be supplied by Samsung and TSMC. Not only that A9 is more powerful, it is also more energy efficient that ensure the 6S will deliver longer operating hours to users.

iOS 9

Apple has already unveiled its new mobile platform iOS 9 via its WWDC 2015 edition, effectively confirming that the next batch of iPhones will run on the software. Working in tandem with A9 chip, iOS 9 will make sure that the next iPhone will be an efficient, snappy and stable mobile machine. Not to mention that the killer features to be deployed with the 6S and 6S Plus are all hardcoded with iOS 9.

Reports are widespread that mass production of the iPhone 6S is already underway, positioning the device for a release date anytime in September 2015 as mentioned above.
