Seattle Seahawks' starting quarterback Russell Wilson reportedly wants to be the highest-paid athlete in the NFL next season, as per CBS Sports.

While negotiating with the Seahawks for a new contract this offseason, Wilson's agent Mark Rodgers had said that his client wanted to receive more than what Green Bay Packers' signal caller Aaron Rodgers is currently earning: an average of $22 million per year. And management is said to be willing to grant it.

The Packers quarterback is the highest-paid player in the league right now and if Wilson's request will be fulfilled, then it looks like it would be a precedent of more ultra-high value deals in the future.

Wilson, a two-time Pro Bowl player, had been in the league for only three years but he has led the Seahawks to two consecutive Super Bowls in 2013 and 2014, winning the first one against the Denver Broncos, 43-8, and losing the next to the New England Patriots, 24-28.

His accomplishments, credentials, potential and durability are certainly worth it for the Seahawks to invest on for the long term as the 26-year-old is just entering his prime years.

However, Sporting News reported that if Seattle do approve Wilson's asking price, he will be the highest paid player but for only a short period of time. The cost of quality quarterbacks nowadays keeps on getting higher as seasons pass and Russell's agent believes that if the deal materializes, his client would soon be overtaken by the likes of Andrew Luck, Eli Manning, and Rodgers himself in the near future.
