NFL News & Rumors: Herschel Walker, 53, To Return To The NFL With Atlanta Falcons?

Former NFL great Herschel Walker

At 53 years old, former NFL running back Herschel Walker is a so far undefeated MMA fighter after two fights. His physique and stamina still look like NFL-ready and his mentality is unquestionable, but can a 53-year-old retired American football player be effective and competitive in today's game?

Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn seems to believe so.

Quinn told reporters in a recent interview that his team has room for old man Walker if he decides to come back, according to CBS Sports. He also said that the former Dallas Cowboy, Minnesota Viking, Philadelphia Eagle, and New York Giant is one of his "all-time favorite players" and can "definitely fit in great from a competitive standpoint."

But is Coach Quinn really serious about giving father Walker another shot?

Apparently, his comments were misunderstood by the media, which of course immediately made a big deal out of it.

In an interview with ESPN, Quinn explained what he meant when he said that Walker has a spot waiting for him with the Falcons.

"Look, what I said about Herschel being one of my all-time favorite players is true, but nobody should take seriously what I said about having room on the team for him," Quinn said. "I love him, yes, but some of that was in jest. I love the running backs we have on our roster. We had a great offseason, and I'm excited about going into training camp with that group."

There you go. Case closed.

Coach Quinn better learn to keep his jokes inside their locker room and not within hearing range of reporters.
