With Colin Trevorrow's "Jurassic World" continuous rampage in theaters, the film has become the highest grossing domestic release of the year.

After its release on June 12, Treverrow's "Jurassic World" has made an estimated gross of $500 million in the United States, as per Box Office Mojo.

The dinosaur sequel managed to top Joss Whedon's superhero film "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and James Wan's action film "Fast and Furious 7," which made estimated domestic grosses of $452 million and $351 million, respectively.

Grabbing the last two spots of the top five are Kenneth Branagh's live-action film "Cinderella" and Pete Docter's animated film "Inside Out," which made estimated domestic grosses of $200 million and $185 million, respectively.

Due to the ground-breaking record in the history of the "Jurassic Park" franchise, fans now assume that Universal Studios will announce a sequel for Trevorrow's blockbuster, as per Cinema Blend. While the director said previously that he is not returning to direct a sequel for the film, lead actor Chris Pratt said that he sign on for more film installment

Trevorrow's "Jurassic World" serves as the fourth installment of the "Jurassic Park" franchise and is set 22 years following the events in Isla Nublar in Steven Spielberg's original 1993 film "Jurassic Park."

Due to dwindling sales of the Jurassic World theme park, Masrani Corporation has made its first hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus rex, to boost again its sales. However, the company's marketing strategy backfires when their new asset gets out of containment and wreaks havoc the theme park.

"Jurassic World" stars Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, Judy Greer, Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, Brian Tee, Vincent D'Onofrio, and BD Wong, among others.
