Thousands of marijuana fans and entrepreneurs gathered at the "Weed The People" held in Oregon on July 3, Friday. They exchanged cannabis samples and gather business tips on how they can make use of marijuana in making profits. Oregon's new law allows the recreational way of using pot for business purposes.

Authorized growers give away samples to taste. Some gardening experts showed organic plant food and artists sold marijuana pipes to the participants and marijuana enthusiasts.

D.J. King, a labor organizer with the United Food and Commercial Workers, said that cannabis is a great opportunity to unionize workers in marijuana grow operations, retailers and distributors. She also added that there is a lot of money that can be made, they also wanted to be sure it is spread out to all fans of cannabis, Yahoo! reported.

The recreational use of marijuana became legal in Oregon as the clock struck on July 1.  The law opens a way for all authorized shops to sell marijuana legally. Licensing for commercial processors, growers and retail outlets won't start until Jan. 4, 2016.

According to Sentinel Republic, marijuana and cannabis can now be legally possessed by Oregon citizens aged 21 and older. They set an 8 ounces of marijuana leaf and four cannabis plants as the maximum a person can have. It can also be planted at home as long as it is hidden from public view.

Oregon joined other states like Colorado, Alaska and Washington in legalizing recreational marijuana. There is a document known in the cannabis industry as "The Cole Memo," which outlined the eight enforcement priorities and guidance for legal marijuana programs.
