Apple upgraded its iPod Touch on July 14, Tuesday, with 8-megapixel camera, 64-bit A8 chip processor, and new colorways, the first major upgrade since 2012.

The Apple Inc. dubbed the upgraded version as the best iPod Touch yet. Among the upgraded features of the iPod Touch are improved 8-megapixel camera, an upgrade to the older version's 5-megapixel camera and the new A8 chip, allowing the device to run faster and handle game graphics better, The Verge reported.

iPod Touch also has the M8 motion coprocessor for better tracking of movement. The users of the newly-upgaded version can also have access to the new Apple Music where users can create their playlist and search for wide array of music.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of iPhone, iPod and iOS product marketing said that iPod touch will give consumers around the world an access to Apple Music, the App Store and iOS, which according to Joswiak is the world's most advanced mobile operating system.

Joswiak also added that the device's new features such as the improved camera and A8 chip will give users better photos and access to their favorite TV shows and movies.

The prices of iPod Touch varies on the memory storage of the device. An iPod touch with 16 gigabites of memory cost $199, 32 gigabites for $249, 64 gigabites for $299 and 128 gigabites for $399

However, the newly upgraded device is not the most selling product of Apple as the sales of iPod touch have stumbled over the past years, C/net reported. Since reaching the peak on 2008 with 54.43 million units selled, the sales have tumbled down with only 14.4 million units selled in 2014.

With the emergence of smart phones and Apple watch to users which also gives them access to music, the iPod touch lost its popularity. It also lacks features which are available on iPhone devices such as cellular connection and bigger screens. But there are still some consumers who would prefer the the device which is cheaper compare to its Apple product counterparts.

In 2014, Apple have made minor tweaks to iPod Touch by installing a new rear-facing camera and added new colors such as red, blue, yellow and pink while also cutting the product's price. Previously, the price of iPod Touch was ranging from $229 to $399 without a rear camera and was only available on silver and space gray.

The newest version of iPod Touch is now available on Apple Online Store, and other authorized reseller stores. New colorways such as; space gray, silver, gold, pink and blue are available.
