The long rumored “Half Life 3” release that is expected to happen for more than a decade, might possibly take a few more years, or even half a decade.

Earlier this year, with a leak that was first believed to be the “Half Life 3” logo, rumors about the game development started surfacing, with fans eagerly looking forward to an announcement at the E3 2015. Valve denied any logo leak and there was no word about the game at the E3 event.

Gabe Newell, Valve co-founder and managing director squashed the rumors in a podcast with Geff Keighley, saying that Valve will go back to a “super classic kind of product,” like the "Half Life," only if anybody at the company decides to do it for a good reason, Christian Today reported.

However, Newell stopped short of saying that there will be no “Half Life 3” and also refused to deny the fact that the game will release in the future.

When asked about a possible "Half Life" VR release during an interview with Kotaku, Valve programmer Jeep Barnett has said “We’re not saying, ‘no,’ but we don’t know what the right thing is [yet]. Our most precious resource is time, and we don’t have enough time for people to do everything.”

Barnett added that the company wishes to make all the game franchise in VR, but does not have enough time or people for it. Hence Valve is likely to be figuring out “what’s the best fit, what plays to the strengths of VR.” The company has reportedly tried “Half Life” series also.

As of this writing, there is no official word about if there will ever be a “Half Life 3” or not. Nevertheless, it seems like the fans will have to wait for some more years to experience the game, if Valve even decides to release it.
