Moto G 2015 Confirmed As Water Resistant: Will Moto X 2015 Be The Same On Release Date?

Motorola will reportedly introduce the Moto G 2015 on July 28 and among the confirmed specifications that leaked out so far is the mid-range handset's IPX7 certification, meaning it has water resistant features. Will the flagship model, the Moto X 2015, carry the same protection?

Before getting to the answer to that question, it should be clarified first that IPX7 is not the water proofing that was seen with some of the Sony Xperia flagships in the past. At best, IPX7 on the Moto G this year "should allow slight submersion and rain or moisture exposure," according to Mobile Syrup.

That also means that the Moto G is not rugged and high-end enough. The same with the specs, which Mobile Syrup added are not the best but decent enough. The power is from a quad-core Snapdragon 410 chip that spins at top speed of 1.4GHz, paired with 1GB of RAM.

The front panel measures diagonally at 5-inch and emits in 720p resolution, crisp enough to double as the viewfinder of the camera system - a 16MP shooter on the rear with dual-LED flash and a 5MP front-facing cam.

The power juice will be squeezed from a 2470mAh battery, which is just right for the Moto G category.

Now again, will the Moto X 2015 copy the Moto G water resistant capability or even improve on it?

Highly likely and the most solid proof that something like IPX7 will come to this year's Motorola flagship is the Moto X Sport that according to Phone Arena is designed for active users. This variant of the new Moto X is said to be for a rugged environment and what comes to mind quickly is repellant features to guard against abuse and elements.

The Sport labelling itself indicates that the device is coated with protection against sand and liquid intrusions. Another possible feature is shock proofing or protection against drops and bends.

But then again, there is no confirmation from Motorola on anything about the Moto X Sport. The company is complexly silent about the device.

Motorola, however, is not contradicting the perception that it will unveil new smartphones on July 28, not only the 2015 Moto 5 but also the new Moto E and Moto X. It could be that the Moto G and E will be unboxed in the next few weeks after the event but the Moto X 2015 release date is not expected to happen until September, likely coinciding with the 2015 IFA trade show in Berlin.
