Christians are protesting against a statue of Baphomet surrounded by two children in a satanic temple in Detroit. Hundreds of catholics rallied at a US catholic church to condemn the 2.6 metre tall bronze statue which is going to be unveiled on July 25 at a Detroit location. The temple reported earlier on the same date that around 200 to 250 assembled at St. Joseph Church against the ceremony.
Baphomet is a representation of Satan having a goat's head on a winged human's body. A report from Satanic Temple said that the unveiling of the statue is a call-to-arms which will kick off the temple's largest fight to date in the name of their rights to free exercise against theocracy. The temple calls unveiling the largest satanic ceremony in history. A ticket is needed to enjoy the event and the event's location will be given via email to ticket holders on Saturday.
According to Bishop Corletta Vaughn of the Holy Ghost Cathedral in a post on Detroit Free Press, the unveiling will not happen in the city of Detroit on his watch and he will stand against the statue being in the city of Detroit. He added that they will not turn over the city to satanists. He also added that they will drive the satanists out of Detroit. The ceremony for the unveiling of the statue received lots of negative comments on the post.
The statue was destined for the state capitol in Oklahoma city until banning of religious displays on the capitol was implemented. The Satanic Temple plans to bring the statue on Arkansas' statehouse where a ten commandments monument is also planned to stand.
