Dr. Dre to release latest and last album in 16 years

Famous American rapper and music producer Dr. Dre will release his first album in 16 years via Apple's recently launched music streaming service - Apple Music.

The founder of Beats Electronics hangs up his headphones for a while and will release "Compton: A Soundtrack," which Dr. Dre says will be his final album. His last album was released in 1999's "2001," according to TIME.

The album's release on Apple's streaming service is no surprise as Dr. Dre's Beats Electronics, was taken over by Apple last year and is now an integral part of Apple Music. The headphone company was co-founded with Jimmy Lovine, a famous music industry executive.

In an interview with the Verge publication, Dr. Dre  told "The Pharmacy" his Beats 1 radio show that the contents of it was inspired by the biopic "Outta Compton" which details his rise in the music industry alongside American hip hop/rap groups from Compton in California .

During the radio show interview Dr. Dre said he kept the album under wraps and called it an "inspired by" album and remarked that while he is proud of the outcome he has dubbed the album his "Grande Finale."

Hailed as the hip-hop industry's Godfather, fans expected Dr. Dre's long-delayed third album, "Detox" to be his "grand finale." But Dr. Dre told the radio show host the previous album which had been a work in progress since early 2000 will never see a release date as he felt it was not good enough.

He was quite critical of the album in the interview and candidly said " It wasn't good," adding that he felt he did not do a good enough job which would have been worthy of a release despite his hard work.

The rapper is also the co-owner of Death Row Records, which has been responsible for producing supporting the musical careers of artistes such as Eminem, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar.
