The tech giant Google is now pushing a patch for the Stagefright security flaw to the Nexus 10, Nexus 9, Nexus 7, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 4 and Nexus Player. The new Android version will roll out as build LMY48I and seems to be headed to mobile phones to patch Stagefright. The search giant will release security patches for Nexus tablets and smartphones about once a month.
The company said in a blog post that Nexus handsets will continue to get major software updates for two years and security patches for 3 years from initial availability in the Google Store or 18 months from last sale of the Nexus device through the Google Store.
Furthermore, the mobile carrier AT&T has also begun rolling out an over-the-air update for many Samsung devices. It is rolling out Stagefright patch update for Galaxy S5 Active, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6 Active, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 4, according to Somedroid.
Users can wait for the over-the-air update notification to appear on their device or they can go to the System Update menu in Settings and pull the update manually. According to reports, it shouldn't take too long for the update to go live for the users of AT&T.
Stagefright Android vulnerability, which was found recently, lets hackers to remotely gain access to a mobile device powered by Google's operating system by sending a video using MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service). The video is processed by the device on its own without requiring any user input and, therefore, the harmful code runs and gives access to the hacker.
Users who get the update should download and install it on their device immediately.
