Jaycee Chan, son of kung fu star Jackie Chan, was released from prison after serving six months for drug charges.

Action star Jackie Chan has expressed his desire to work with his son Jaycee on a film and an album, with hopes that it will help improve their relationship after Jaycee's recent release from prison due to a drug charge.

Jaycee Chan's six-month prison sentence was the result of him allowing others to use marijuana in his Beijing apartment. He was released in February.

Jackie Chan said on Monday that prison was a good experience for his son because it made him more mature, and he believes it made their relationship better.

"I was too Chinese, traditional," Jackie Chan said in an interview in Beijing. "You, son, go away, I don't want to help you, you have to help yourself." He added that when he filmed "The Karate Kid" with Jaden Smith, he was struck when he saw Will Smith helping his son every day on the set.

Jackie Chan then decided to help his son. Since then, the 61-year-old actor has been looking for suitable movie projects for Jaycee. For now, Jackie says that Jaycee will produce one of his records, expected to be released at the end of the year.

He also expressed his hope that Jaycee would sing a duet with him.

"Probably there is one song that we will sing to each other," said Chan, mentioning how he ignored Jaycee when he was young. "I say 'sorry, I was busy at that time.'"

Chan said that he is still unsure whether his son will agree.

After Jaycee Chan and other actors served prison time, Chinese authorities have said that they will ban celebrities linked to drugs from appearing in films and television shows in China. However, Jaycee still appeared in Chen Kaige's "Monk Comes Down the Mountain," which finished filming before he was detained.
