The story of a young cartoonist who fought cancer recently had a big screen adaptation, thanks to two giants of China's film industry--Wanda Pictures and Edko Films Ltd.--who promised to collaborate for the production of the tragic-comedy, "Go Away Mr. Tumor."
The film was helmed by Han Yan and was top-billed by Fay Bai and Daniel Wu.
"Han was the ideal director and Fay Bai was the most suitable actress for this film, and they did a good job," Bill Kong, a low-key mogul in China, remarked during the film's press conference.
Kong has been Han's producer and mentor since he started his career.
Wanda Cultural Industry Group vice president Ye Ning also expressed his excitement for the film during the media conference, stating his optimism that the movie will set new records.
The two film giants have recently reigned in China's box office, with their collaborating minds paving the way for new and innovative film ideas.
Meanwhile, Fay Bai also earned comments from analysts that her role in "Go Away Mr. Tumor" could cement her status as the undisputed blockbuster queen of the year. This summer, Fay has already starred in three films, including the smash hit "Monster Hunt."
The film revolves around the final years of Xiang Yao, a popular Chinese cartoonist who died because of cancer. The story is based on her life and works.
Xiang Yao, who was known as "Bearton" and "Xiong Dun," died on Nov. 6, 2012, after losing her battle with a malignant tumor.
Hailing from the Zhejiang Province, she made several comic books on various topics, ranging from teenage love to weight loss to the life of her idol, the pop icon Michael Jackson.
Han said after the film's premiere that he hopes that "Go Away Mr. Tumor" will touch people's hearts and help the audience understand life and existence deeper.
"And you, Xiong Dun, you will live forever on the big screen," the director remarked emotionally.
