Bill Murray to appear in 'Ghostbusters' reboot

Actor Bill Murray is set to appear in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" reboot  despite the actor's reluctance to participate in a third installment of the series.

According to reports in Variety the actor has warmed up to playing a role in the "Ghostbusters" reboot directed by Paul Feig and comprising an all-female cast of the comedy.

Media reports are yet to confirm if Murray will appear in an unrelated role or as his one time on-screen character  Peter Venkman.

Prior to Feig taking on the reins as director for the franchise, Murray referred to a part three of "Ghostbusters" as a "nightmare" in an interview with David Letterman calling the suggestion "crazy talk."

According to Time Murray felt that the poor response to a sequel is what soured the idea of a reboot in the franchise.

Previously as the 30th anniversary of the classic movie loomed in Hollywood, Murray openly suggested  that the ghost fighting cast comprise of actresses and even gave his pick of the dream cast including Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone  and Linda Cardellini according to the publication.

In the end actresses Wiig and McCarthy were  cast in the reboot together with "Saturday Night Live" stars Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. It  has also been reported that Chris Hemsworth will play the role of the receptionist of the ghost-busting team.

Meanwhile , Murray is not the only actor from the former  "Ghostbusters" cast to take part in a cameo of the reboot.  Recently, actor Dan Aykroyd did some filming together with Wiig. Like Murray it is still to be seen if  Aykroyd's role will involve reprising  his character as Ray Stantz or if he will appear in a completely new  role.

Previously, rumors circulated about a possible scene of a "baton-passing " of sorts between the first "Ghostbusters" cast and the new cast, however  that idea has since been put aside following the death of former "Ghostbusters" actor Harold Ramis who plays character Egon Spengler

The reboot of the "Ghostbusters" is set to hit  theaters next year in July.
