Beijing Tightens Security for 70th War Anniversary

China is at the height of preparing for the upcoming V-Day military parade on Sept. 3.

Security measures will become more stringent for the celebration of China’s World War II victory on Sept. 3, as authorities will require all packages delivered to and from Beijing to be labelled with real names and specifically accurate information.

Officials in the State Post Bureau (SPB) held a special meeting last Friday to assess the security strategy to be utilized.

Numerous cities have already taken steps to integrate the policy in the delivery industry to combat the illegal flow of goods.

In the Fujian Province, package senders are already required to have their names and ID registered in the post office in Fuzhou.

The implementation of the policy is seen as a step up in security and safety at the expense of privacy.

SPB chief Ma Junsheng has implored all departments to stay alert and improve the inspection of delivery companies to ensure postal security within the capital as well as neighboring provinces.

In addition, the municipal government has adopted other measures, such as limiting cars on streets to improve air quality during the celebration.

China is preparing for the celebration with the staging of various events in the capital, culminating in a military parade on Sept. 3.

All major countries involved in the war will be invited to attend the commemorative event.

"We hope these commemorative activities will help remind all kind-hearted people of the aspiration and pursuit for peace, make them work together to prevent a repetition of this historical tragedy and safeguard the outcomes of World War II," China's foreign ministry added.
